In this first episode of the new season, we meet the irrepressible Lloyd Kaufman, co-founder of Troma Entertainment and director of The Toxic Avenger. Find out why Lloyd loves pirates - except state-sponsored ones; why vertical integration, media consolidation and the end of Net Neutrality would kill Troma; and why Lloyd is skeptical that crowdfunding systems like Patreon have a role in crowdfunding independent movies. Check out Lloyd's movies on his YouTube channel!

The Grey Lodge was an underground private torrent tracker used by millions of people per month in their quest to uncover the esoteric, strange and the downright weird. In this episode we hear from Joe Matheny, one of the founders of the site, about how it kicked off in the very early days of BitTorrent, online culture in the early days of the Internet, proto-copyright trolls, how even weirdos eventually get pursued by the MPAA, and how the demise of indie trackers from Grey Lodge to What.CD mean a net loss for our culture. Coming soon: the second part of this interview, in which Joe discusses his work as an early creator of "this is not a game" ARG experiences and his well-known work Ong's Hat, The Incunabula Papers. We'll be making that available for supporters on the Patreon (and maybe more widely) in due course. In the meantime, if you're curious to take a look at some of Joe's work, he's been kind enough to give us a free pack including Ong's Hat and some samples from his ARG! Enjoy.

The alleged owner of KickassTorrents was arrested last week, to be extradited from Poland to the United States. The site - at least the original version - remains offline. In this episode of STEAL THIS SHOW, we invite Peter Sunde, co-founder of The Pirate Bay, Andrew Norton, chairman of the US Pirate Party, and Gary Fung, founder of Isohunt, to discuss this critical event, its significance for the torrent community, and implications for the world of P2P. We discuss the propriety of extraordinary rendition for copyright crime, the question of how much money pirates are really making, and how the anti-P2P agenda is leading to further decentralisation. Kickass Torrents, we learn, is just one head of the many-headed hydra.

In this special episode Rick Falkvinge, founder of The Pirate Party, talks about the origins of the party, its relationship to The Pirate Bay and Pirate Bureau, his experience of taking it to the European Parliament, and the party's relation to questions of privacy and surveillance looming ever larger in today's society. Should the Pirate Party really be called the Private Party? No, says Rick, it's evolving into the natural home of citizens' rights for digital freedom – and that's just fine for pirates.
